The story behind Yudewi

“Your degree won't be a gamble. Your career won't have a border.”

How someone who did their entire education in Indonesia — with no foreign degree, no famous lab, and no insider connections — ended up leading AI at a Swiss company and building a compass for the next generation.

The Underdog Advantage: Why I Built Yudewi

When I started my graduate studies in Indonesia, I wasn't dreaming of leading AI for a European company or collaborating with world-renowned laboratories. In all honesty, I thought like an underdog. I assumed the only realistic path was to play it safe: keep my head down, finish my PhD locally, and aim for a standard domestic tenure-track job.

For years, I battled intense overthinking and impostor syndrome. When you study far away from the global hubs — outside of Boston, London, Zurich, or Silicon Valley — and you don't live in environments where elitists, venture capitalists, and top professors naturally congregate, you're conditioned to believe that international opportunities belong to someone else. You tell yourself that without an Ivy League stamp or a Western passport, you're simply out of the running.

Meanwhile, academia repeats a comfortable myth: “Just work hard on your thesis, publish wherever you can, and a great career will naturally follow.”

In reality, that's not how the world works. I watched brilliant peers — people far smarter and more hardworking than me — get trapped in underpaid, exhausting academic or local job market loops, settle for roles that severely undervalued their potential, or get turned away by top industry and research recruiters who labeled them “lacking experience” simply because no one had taught them how to translate their local professional and academic background into global business and research impact.

“We might start as underdogs. We might not live in the environments where the global elite gather. But that doesn't mean we have to stay confined to the margins. With the right compass, we can thrive our way into any room.”

That realization changed everything for me. Being an underdog doesn't mean you are doomed to stay local — it means you cannot afford to guess. When you don't have institutional pedigree opening doors automatically, you have to build an undeniable, compounding strategy:

  • Science that travels: Focusing on high-impact research questions with international rigor, avoiding evaluation traps, and publishing in respected Q1 journals and top-tier conference workshops.
  • Foundation-first, precision outreach: Cold outreach only works when you have the ammunition to back it up. You cannot just spray generic emails with an empty or unpolished portfolio. At YuDewi, we guide you to build solid foundational credentials first, then pinpoint the exact professors, labs, or industry roles whose current priorities match your unique profile. When your pitch is targeted with surgical accuracy, you don't need 100 desperate attempts — your journey becomes effortless because you can accurately win in one targeted try.
  • Commercial translation: Demystifying academic jargon into commercial value (revenue, latency, scalability) that global tech companies eagerly pay top dollar for.

Applying this exact playbook is what took me from a domestic Indonesian education to becoming Head of AI at a Swiss company in just 1 year, securing a postdoctoral offer from a world-renowned lab in Copenhagen before my defense, winning a Best Poster Award in Canada, and receiving a UK Global Talent endorsement backed by staff engineers at Amazon and LinkedIn, and professors at Imperial College London.

That is what our clients get from working with us. We don't give generic advice or spray-and-pray tactics. We help you build the foundation, craft the narrative, and match your profile to the right opportunities so that stepping into your next international career or academic milestone feels effortless — winning accurately, on your very first try.

Three principles behind everything we do

These aren't buzzwords — they're the lenses we use to make every recommendation.

A space for people building beyond their environment

YuDewi is designed specifically for people navigating the high-stakes intersection of education, academia, and global tech careers. We break down the real mechanics of:

🎓 Graduate School ROI: Deciding whether a Master's or PhD is genuinely worth pursuing for your goals.
🌏 Global Mobility: Unlocking funded scholarships, fellowships, and international visas without pedigree.
🔬 Academic Strategy: Transforming your research output into compounding, high-citation career capital.
💼 Academia → Industry: Translating deep technical rigor into skills and metrics that global tech companies pay for.
🧭 Intentional Trajectory: Choosing paths based on your real energy drivers, financial runway, and long-term options.
🌱 Building from the Periphery: Creating massive global opportunities even when you don't come from an elite circle.

This isn't about prescribing one “correct” path. You might become a professor, lead AI at a global scale-up, or build your own venture. The point is to make that choice intentionally — with leverage, sovereignty, and zero guesswork.

🌍

1. Science that travels

Don't just publish to tick a graduation box. Work on problems that international reviewers and foreign labs actually care about. When your research travels, opportunities follow — fellowships, citations, invitations, and doors you didn't even know existed.

⚡

2. Commercial translation

Your research depth is genuinely valuable to industry — but only if you can explain it in their language. We help you translate academic rigor into business impact: latency improvements, cost savings, revenue growth. That's what turns “overqualified” into “exactly what we need.”

🧭

3. Sovereignty & runway

Real intellectual freedom requires financial stability. Whether your future is in elite academia or venture-backed tech, we help you build career runway so you can make choices from a position of strength — not desperation.
